ERIC ASHTON, MS, PA-CPhysician Assistant
Eric Ashton is a native of Northeast Ohio where he attended Malone College in Canton, Ohio and obtained a bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine. While at Malone, Eric was an 11-time All-American in cross-country and track and field. Eric then earned a master's degree in exercise physiology from USC in 1994. After completing the physician assistant program at MUSC in 2000, he worked as a certified physician assistant (PA-C) with Dr. Evan Ekman at Southern Orthopaedic Sports Medicine in Columbia, SC until 2013. Between 2013 and 2019, Eric practiced orthopaedics at Southeastern Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine at Lexington Medical Center. Dr. Pappas recruited Eric to join him at South Carolina Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in 2019, where their practice focuses on injuries of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Eric's post-collegiate running accolades include being named South Carolina Runner of the Year 15 times, participating in the US Olympic Marathon trials in 1996, and being named the United States Masters Runner of the Year in 2011. Eric has been named the all-time greatest long-distance runner in South Carolina! He lives on Daniel Island with his wife Sara, cat Latta, and the mighty golden retriever Trevor Lawrence.

AMBERLE PHILLIPS, MA, ATCMedical Assistant
Amberle Phillips is a native of Chicago, IL and came to Charleston on a volleyball scholarship at Charleston Southern University (CSU). She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Biology in 2011. She also earned a Master’s degree in Sports Management from The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina in 2013. While at The Citadel, she volunteered with the volleyball team. She returned to Charleston Southern to obtain a second Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. While at CSU, she completed an internship with the Charleston Battery Soccer Team. Amberle is a board-certified athletic trainer (ATC) and a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and the South Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association (SCATA). She loves to spend time with her husband, Shannon, and their hound dog River.
